the year of czech music 2024

Share

Gustav Mahler said about the relationship of Czechs to music: “Where else can you find a nation that has such a rich musical tradition as the Czechs?” We can only confirm Mahler’s words. Prague, like the entire Czech Republic, is fascinated by music. If you fly with Czech Airlines, the strains of Bedřich Smetana’s symphonic poem Vltava (The Moldau) usually greet passengers on board the plane upon landing. The centenary of his birth in 1924 started the tradition of the Year of Czech Music, and, as we do every ten years, we are commemorating Czech musical personalities once again this year. Join the people of Prague and enjoy festivals, concerts, theatres, exhibitions, walks, and art programs. Celebrate with us the fascinating world of music that needs no translation because it speaks directly to the heart.

The celebrations feature concerts of classical music and other musical genres, representing the great diversity of the contemporary Czech music scene.
