Breakfast at Tallulah’s

And on the 7th day, God said, “Let there be Brunch”.

Ok. Maybe it didn’t go quite like that.

But I’m preeeeeety sure God enjoys a good chocolate chip pancake. Because I mean… who doesn’t?!

Out of all the things I love in life, more than brand new white towels, more than David Bowie in the Labyrinth…even more than coconut La Croix; I LOVE BRUNCH.

Eggs benny? Yup. Bloody Marys? Don’t mind if I doooo. Almond butter, banana, and chia seed toast? Get in muh belly.

Brunch is the end-all-be-all of necessary meals. It is the cream of the crop, the foundation of my food pyramid, the Laverne to my Shirley. Are you picking up what I’m putting down? In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie, there was brunch: The one meal to rule them all.

Yep. I took it there.

The other weekend, Cam and I ventured out to North Capitol Hill in Seattle in search of a brunch spot to try out. We came across Tallulah’s, tucked away on the corner of 19th Ave and East Mercer St. They market themselves as “A neighborhood cafe offering a globally inspired, vegetable-driven menu”. I like to consider myself an equal food opportunist, but there was a fiddle leaf fig situated decoratively outside of their door and a large oil painting of a Persian cat hanging on the wall of their entryway, and I hate to admit it, but that totally sold me.

Tallulah’s looked like what I envision my dream home looking like. In fact, it looked like something straight off my ‘This is what I really want my condo to look like’ Pinterest board. No, the board is not really named that… but it should be.

Cam and I both ordered a vanilla latte while we scoured their brunch menu. You know, the fancy kind, where your foam looks like a leaf, or Barbara Streisand’s side profile. There is something so enjoyable about sitting across a table from your best friend, on a cool fall morning, sipping a perfectly made extra hot vanilla latte, and talking about weekend plans.

Everything on the menu sounded delicious; herb and goat cheese omelettes… lemon ricotta pancakes… Tallulah’s Benedict, it was nearly impossible to pick only one thing. We hungrily eyed the perfectly plated dishes that floated by our table, pointing out which ones looked best. It sounded a lot like this:

Cam: “Omg look at those pancakes”

Me: Is that a mimosa!? Holy moly, would you look at that coffee cake!?

Guys check out women. Cam and I check out food. haha.

Cam and I have very similar taste, which is why we both ended up settling on the breakfast bowls. The bowls were filled with soft yams, braised carnitas, black beans, and quinoa, all topped with fresh arugula, avocado, and crumbled cheese. I’m pretty sure there may have been some steamed chard or kale thrown in their as well. Either way, it was amazing. Oh, and I can’t forget, they top it off with an egg, sunny side up.

I love venturing around finding new hidden gems around the city. Tallulah’s is the definition of a hidden gem. It’s tucked away within a Seattle neighborhood, painted with craftsman style houses that both Camrin and I drooled over. Next time you’re visiting the PNW, stop in for breakfast and let me know what you think!
