Kaiserstein Palace

This magnificent palace, a prime example of pure High Baroque architecture, was commissioned by František Helfried, Count of Kaiserstein, the military commander of Prague, between 1700 and 1708 based on a design by renowned architect G.B. Alliprand. The palace changed hands several times, including the Radetzky family. It was then acquired by hotelier Václav Petzold, who transformed it into a restaurant. The palace was thus called U Petzoldů - “At the Petzolds” - for the next hundred years. Petzold’s wife, opera singer Marie Sittová, became the first performer of Smetana’s opera “The Bartered Bride.” Later, the palace was home to the celebrated opera star Ema Destinnová, whose presence is commemorated by a memorial bust and a concert hall on the second floor. The building’s gable is adorned with statues of the Four Seasons and decorative vases. Today, the palace’s elegant spaces are ideally suited for hosting events of all kinds, including conferences, gala evenings, parties, weddings, and concerts.
