Exhibition prepared within Designblok 2024. In the story of postmodern design, Czech artists played an important role, among whom Bohuslav Horák also stood out in the panorama of Czech design of the 1980s and 1990s and on the international scene. What is extraordinary about Bóda Horák's work? The fact that the expression of his designs and the personal handwriting as well as the emotional charge of his objects have maintained a similar homogeneity since the 1980s, when he was one of the founding members of the Atika group. Inspiration from nature and organic structures along with experimental forms were not just a contemporary episode in his creative journey, as with his colleague Jiří Pelc. For him, it is still one big artistic adventure. He develops these motifs further and remains faithful to his statement, his poeticism, his world. He has brought a new perspective on what design can be. His work is inspired by natural shapes and processes, which is reflected in all his pieces - from furniture to accessories to jewellery. In Boda Horák's work, intuitiveness and expression still triumph over pure rationality, handmade over industrial production. His designs invite us to think, dream and experience, yet are functional and useful. They can be sat on or lounged on, used for dining, as a mirror or hanger, they illuminate a space. But at the same time, they have the capacity to be internalized, where we feel that they relate to forces and energies (not only natural) that transcend us. In this way, they add another, unexpected dimension to our interiors and lives. Studio design par excellence, unparalleled in the history of Czech design. date and time Opening hours Tuesday 10:00—20:00 Wednesday to Sunday 10:00—18:00 Monday closed Admission basic 150 CZK | reduced 80 CZK
