Between Art Nouveau and Brutalism

Share

Prague’s modern 20th-century architectural exploits often remain in the shadow of the city’s grand Gothic and Baroque buildings.

Yet in the centre of Prague, on the site of the former medieval walls, there are several innovative buildings that continue to provoke. The Brutalist glass façade of the National Theatre’s Nová Scéna (New Stage), the hexagonal Kotva Department Store, and notable buildings from other modern periods, including the Dancing House, Municipal House (a pearl of the Art Nouveau style), and Mánes Gallery.

Tour route: Powder Tower — Kotva Department Store — Municipal House —  Můstek  — Máj Department Store — New Stage, National Theatre — Mánes — Dancing House

Before you go on the tour:

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Meeting point: under the Powder Tower
  • End of the road: Dancing House
  • Please note: The tour includes only the walk; entrance fees to individual sites are not included. The route is suitable in any weather, as well as after dark.
